Food industry in Flanders on the rise
Fevia Flanders, the Federation of the Flemish Food industry, published its latest results. The Food industry is one of the key economic pillars in Northern Belgium (Flanders region). Driven by small and medium sized companies, innovation is high on the agenda. Compared to its neighbouring countries, Flanders scores higher in successful product and process innovations. In 2014, the Flemish food and drink industry, which represents 85% of all Belgian sector exports, reached a record year with a €18.3 billion turnover. This equals to a 27.3% increase over 5 years. The biggest growth is seen in non-EU markets. Longer term, major opportunities are expected in China, India and Brazil.
