The new German food style

Nestlé Germany has just published its 2016 Food Study. A few interesting facts: Over the last 10 years, over 3 bn meals less are actually eaten at the in-home table, in particular at the breakfast table (1.2 bn less) and at lunch (1.8 bn less). Bakeries etc. have benefited from now for example 18.4% of out of home expenditure being for breakfast. And not everyone cooks: 20% of men and 4% of women never cook.

A similar new representative survey from the Forsa Institute shows that 4 out of 5 (83%) Germans regularly eat meat, that pasta dishes are continuing to be more popular (for 35% the most popular), indeed causing a reduction in the popularity of vegetable/potato dishes. Even though for most people cooking is fun, there is still a discrepancy between the 41% who cook on a daily basis and the approx. 20% who admit to cooking properly only once per week.
