Despite the increasing price of foodstuffs, Portuguese consumers are not sacrificing health for a lower priced basket
According to research commissioned by the Product of the Year, 44% of Portuguese shoppers said that “eating healthily” is a daily compromise. Supermarkets are the preferred channel for healthy purchasing 70%, with 15% going to markets and 7% to specialized stores.
Nearly half of consumers (47%) said they do not change their basket mix because of price increases. But those who did, organic products (17%), healthy snacks (16%) or Meat (11%) were the ones to go.
Of those who go for specific diets, 28% prefer Gluten and / or Lactose free, low carb (25%) or Plant based (19%).
In terms of information collected to support food purchasing decisions and a quest for a balanced diet, the most relevant sources were seen as: nutritionists (34%), TikTok and You Tube (21%), friends and family (16%) and finally bloggers or health sites (13%).
