Better For The Planet & Better For You – A Top Priority In 2022 For Spanish Food Companies-
Spanish companies have strongly started to deliver on their promises to improve sustainability strategies with 82% of them already putting in place measures against greenhouse gas effects. There has been a reduction of 25.8% of carbon emissions and there are 33% more projects now in place for carbon compensation.
According to the recently issued «I Informe de Sostenibilidad en las Empresas del Gran Consumo y Sectores Afines», prepared by AECOC, the Spanish Association of Manufacturers and Distributors, 86 % of companies have started to implement sustainability actions in their production processes and 75 % are also acting upon logistics and transport. 72 % have applied improvements in their central services.
Cinta Bosch, AECOC Sustainability Chief, declares: ‘reduction of environmental impact is already one of the main strategic pillars of Spanish food companies.”
As regards circular economy and packaging strategies, 87.8% of the companies have reduced their plastic consumption, with a reduction of 22% of the plastic materials used in the production and packaging processes.
In terms of renewable energies, according to the survey 58.2 % of the energy currently being used comes from renewable sources, and the companies have established as an objective to achieve a level of 70% in the years to come.
According to the survey in the part related to “Better-4-you” 77% of the companies are also establishing measures to incentivise healthier lifestyle habits.
