Coop Sweden sets new climate goals for its suppliers

In addition to its own targets as a retailer, Co-op Sweden is now also setting requirements for its supplier base.

Coop’s new climate goals are in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees and within the framework of international cooperation science based targets.

Coop has carried out an analysis of climate emissions across the entire business value chain; from the production of goods to transport, to sales in store and online. The greatest climate impact comes from the production of food and other goods, waste in stores and warehouses, packaging and transport.

Co-op’s goal is to reduce climate emissions from the entire food chain and meet the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement.

The production of food and other goods that Coop sells contributes the most to its climate impact. Therefore, COOP has now chosen also to set goals for suppliers to reduce their global impact across the range of food it sells.

Similar steps could be expected from other Nordic retailers.
