Is beef the new champagne ?

“Beef is becoming a luxury product”, according to Europe’s largest slaughterhouse group (Danish Crown). The CEO of Danish Crown appeared in all Danish media with this statement.
Their prediction is that beef could be eaten only on special occasions because of the climate. And while they may be able to reduce the climate footprint of pork, it is difficult with beef.
According to a food researcher at the University College Copenhagen, you could even consider beef  being the new foie gras due to its climate impact.
Previously, the debate has been about pork in relation to whether it should be served in day care institutions, and it has become a symbol of Danishness. Now it is especially beef that divides people and to some degree generations in relation to the climate agenda.
Nevertheless beef still remains the key ingredient in several of Denmark’s most popular dishes.
