Nordic Markets among world’s most innovative

Nordic markets rank second, sixth and ninth in the world in the ranking of the world’s most innovative countries when the UN makes its annual ranking. It is the sixteenth year in a row that Sweden is ranked in the top three in the world. Switzerland is number one on the list in the Innovation Index measurement.

The Global Innovation Index examines 132 countries’ innovation opportunities and results based on 80 indicators. In addition to criteria such as patents and trademark applications, the index measures indicators for high-tech exports, political climate, education, scientific publications, infrastructure and idea creation, among other things.

Looking at the food and drink market within the Nordic region Sweden is clearly the leader. Well-known international brands are using Sweden as test market before launching into other markets as Swedish consumers are positive and open-minded.

The mix of a strong tech scene, curious customers, forward-looking food and agricultural universities, as well as the growing interest for food in the investment sector makes up for a growing innovative food sector.
